Confused if you should invest in the new GoPro Hero 9 Black? Read this article to get insights about this latest gadget and choose wisely!
The GoPro Hero is the most versatile and powerful action camera you can buy, with the two biggest upgrades being its front display and new sensor. The new 23.6MP sensor can shoot 5K videos that deliver slightly more detail than the Hero 8 Black, in, of course, the right conditions.
There are 3 major physical changes from the Hero 8 Black: a beefier body (to house the bigger battery), a new 1.4-inch color display on the front, and a larger 2.27-inch rear touchscreen.
The biggest benefit of this device is its electronic stabilization. The Hero 9 Black can provide HyperSmooth Boost (which is GoPro’s strongest stabilization) in all shooting modes. For those who are looking to capture high-quality 4K and 5K videos, the Hero 9 Black is a top performer.
The 1.4-inch display that’s on the front is an extremely handy new addition for vlogging. The screen isn’t touch-sensitive (which is good unless you want to fill up the memory card with accidentally recorded videos), but it provides useful shooting info and a live video preview of your scene. Since it’s a square display, it definitely isn’t in the same league as your smartphone’s screen when mounted on gimbals like the DJI OM 4, or the side-hinged screens on cameras like the Sony ZV-1. While these give you a generous live preview of your entire shot, the preview given by Hero 9 Black is more like a rough guide.
Even though the Hero 9 Black has plenty of new features, it doesn’t really bring any major performance enhancements (that will be greatly noticeable in your videos) over the Hero 8 Black. This doesn’t imply that the GoPro Hero 9 Black isn’t an excellent action camera; it just means that the upgrades may not necessarily be doing justice to the premium over the last 2 models. For instance, the HyperSmooth 3.0 stabilization is best-in-class and ideal for shooting first-person sports. The addition of the HyperSmooth Boost to the 4K/60p and 5K/30p modes might not be a big deal for many users.
The Hero 9 Black features a new and bigger battery. While it helps boost the stamina of the camera, it is probably not enough to make a significant and practical difference to the way you shoot.
The GoPro Hero 9 Black can be your number one action camera pick – choose what best suits your needs.
